COPS in Cape Town arrested four armed robbers after they robbed a Bradlows store in Claremont area on Saturday morning, 21 October.
Eyewitnesses said there was a dramatic chase which saw cops cornering the suspects.
“It was like a scene from a movie when the cops were chasing the suspects. Claremont came to a standstill because of the chasing drama. I didn’t know what was happening at first, but I learnt that they had stolen from a shop around here,” said Diana Marweyi, who works in Claremont.
Police spokesman, Colonel Malcolm Pojie said the robbers were found with bedding, clothes, phones and cash among other stolen things.
He said the arrest was possible due to the collaboration between the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement official and SAPS.
“On Saturday at approximately 11:20am, members from the Western Cape Flying Squad as well as Law Enforcement responded to an alert of a suspicious black Toyota Yaris which was possibly equipped with cloned registration plates.
“The members spotted the vehicle, which had only one occupant inside later to be established as the driver of the getaway car. As members were about to approach the vehicle, three men came running out of a store and boarded the vehicle, which immediately sped off,” said Pojie.
Pojie said a high-speed chase followed and the vehicle was cornered, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
“Upon searching the vehicle, members found three firearms, clothing items, bedding, cellphones and a substantial amount of cash. The four occupants of the car were arrested and detained at Claremont police holding cells,” said Pojie.

Pojie said there is a possibility that the four could be involved and possibly linked to other serious crimes that are being investigated.
The four suspects, aged between 25 and 45 are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Monday, 23 October.
MMC for Safety and Security Jean-Pierre Smith said Law Enforcement received information about a Toyota Yaris with tinted windows embarking on robberies.
“Members spotted the vehicle a short while later and informed SAPS. Along with the Flying Squad, the vehicle was pulled over. Inside the vehicle the stolen property was discovered," said Smith.
