THE police in Limpopo have arrested three suspects aged between 29 and 40 during an operation that was conducted in the early hours of Friday 13 October in Polokwane, Seshego, Moletji, Botlokwa, Makotopong, Madiga, and Mankweng.

They recovered five firearms and ammunition, police's rank insignia, and police handcuffs during the raid.

Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said they had been observing a spike in serious and violent crimes in the Capricorn district.

"According to information received after observing a spike of serious and violent crimes in the Capricorn district, where suspects were terrorising community members, the Provincial Team conducted the operation on high-flyer suspects who are involved in these crimes.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that suspects are believed to be part of a gang that is responsible for house robberies, business robberies, hijackings, and taxi-related murders. The team is hot on the heels of the remaining suspects," he said.

Two suspects will appear before Mankweng Magistrates Court and one other suspect will appear at the Polokwane Magistrates Court.

"Two suspects will appear before Mankweng Magistrates Court facing charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition and the impersonating a police officer. The third suspect will appear in the Polokwane Magistrates Court for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition," he said.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has commended the vigilance and commitment that led to the arrest and confiscation of firearms and ammunition, rank insignia, and handcuffs.
