THE DA has denied it practises cadre deployment.
Build One South Africa (Bosa) leader Mmusi Maimane challenged DA leader Federal Executive (FedEx) chairwoman, Helen Zille on Friday, 23 February, to release documents on the party's cadre deployment.
Maimane, a former DA leader, was responding to “spurious allegations” made by Zille in a tweet on X, formerly Twitter, where she alleged that the practice of cadre deployment was introduced to the DA under Maimane and when she returned it was quickly done away with.
“This is simply not true. There was no such policy in the DA under Maimane. In fact, when he took office, Zille’s own cadre deployment policy, “fit for purpose”, was expunged. That policy led to what appears like a patronage network of DA persons and affiliates in the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape government,” said Bosa spokesman Roger Solomons.
He said to not be led to the assumption that Zille may be telling untruths, Bosa wished to publicly challenge her to release the minutes of the FedEx meeting in which the so-called cadre deployment policy within the DA, introduced by Maimane, was allegedly done away with.
The party further demanded the release of all minutes of any FedEx meeting where Maimane was present, which directed or dictated which individuals shall be appointed to any government departments or entity and release the minutes of the meetings whereby Zille’s “nearest and dearest” were appointed to senior positions in DA governments.

Solomons said this includes the likes of Ryan Coetzee, Penny Tainton, Tim Harris and countless others.
“Such public allegations must be called out, and the record must reflect the truth,” he said.
DA spokesman Solly Malatsi told Daily Sun on Saturday, 24 February: “We don’t have cadre deployment.”
He said the party ”dealt with this thing” in 2022 and referred this reporter to an opinion piece written by Zille where she denied the DA practised cadre deployment.
The DA recently won a court case against the ANC, forcing the governing party to release all cadre deployment documents.
DA’s Shadow Minister for Public Service and Administration, Leon Schreiber, said the party went to court because it was committed to upholding principles of public transparency.
“In line with this commitment, we've uploaded the cadre deployment minutes and documents which have so far been supplied on our website, allowing the public access to crucial information,” he said.
