THE police have made a breakthrough in the murder of famous businessman Andries Mgoqi (52).
The Mangaung Trio Task Team arrested two suspects on Friday, 23 February.
According to Free State police spokesman Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli, the cops received a tip-off about the suspects, and they pursued it.
“In the early hours of 23 February 2024, the Mangaung Trio Task Team, while hard at work tracing suspects, received intelligence information that led them to a house in Wepener where two suspects aged 34 and 33 were arrested. Further details cannot be made public at this stage as investigations are at a sensitive stage,” he said.
Andries, who was the former CEO of Centlec, a popular electricity distribution company, was brutally murdered on 16 February.

“This arrest came after the brutal murder that happened on 16 February 2024 at about 8:25pm. The deceased was standing and talking to a friend outside a tavern in Bergman when an unknown African male, walked towards them, pulled out a firearm and shot the 52-year-old man multiple times.
“It was alleged that the suspect fled the scene in a white Mercedez-Benz vehicle after the incident,” he said.
After his murder, Centlec spokesman Lele Mamatu told Daily Sun that they were shocked by his death.
"Mgoqi is one of the most brilliant officials we have ever hired. He was so professional. We were shocked by his brutal death. We saw the video where a young man shot and killed him instantly. We wish to pass our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, former colleagues and the whole community of Mangaung," he said at the time.
