IT HAS been another bloody weekend in the country.
This after the bodies of six people were discovered at an alleged drug post house in New Brighton near Gqeberha, Eastern Cape on Sunday morning, 6 November.
Eastern Cape police are investigating six counts of murder after the three men and three women were shot and killed.
According to police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it’s alleged that during the early hours of the morning, between 1am and 2am, neighbours heard gunshots in New Brighton.
She said at about 6.45am, they went to check on their neighbour’s house and found the door open and four people, one female and three males, lying in the lounge.
“Another female was found in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. The female in the bedroom had a three-year-old child, with her, fortunately the child was not hurt.
“It is further alleged that the owner of the house was a bush mechanic who worked on cars. Some of the victims were shot and stabbed while others were just shot,” she said.
Naidu said it has been alleged that the house is a drug post but the suspects and motive for the shootings are unknown at this stage.
“A case of murder with six counts will be investigated by the Provincial Organised Crime investigation team in Gqeberha,” she said.
She said a manhunt has been launched for the suspect/s involved in the shooting.
Meanwhile, in KZN detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit are appealing to members of the community to come forward with information that will assist them in arresting culprits behind the killing of six people at Clermont.
According to KZN spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker on Saturday night, 5 November, another six people were shot and killed while one was injured at an informal settlement in Clermont.
He said the seven men were in a room within the informal settlement when unknown people opened fire.
“Charges of murder and attempted murder are being investigated the Provincial Organised Crime Unit. Members of the community are urged to come forward with any information that will assist investigators. All information will be treated with confidentiality and residents are encouraged to contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app to share information,” he said.

KZN provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said these types of incidents must be condemned by all sectors of society.
“We are appealing to citizens to work with investigators from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit to bring the perpetrators to book. There can be no reason to justify killing people in such a brutal manner,” said Mkhwanazi.
