RESIDENTS of Mountain View zone 2 near KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga, have been living in fear since Monday, 31 October.
This because an axeman is on the loose after chopping his uncle to death.
Two other people are alleged to be fighting for their lives in hospital after feeling the wreath of the axeman while they were trying to apprehend him.
Joseph Mhlanga (54), from Mozambique, was killed in his shack, allegedly by his nephew. And the brutal murder happened in front of his lover, Ncane Ngubeni (51).
She told Daily Sun that they heard a knock early in the morning.
“My boyfriend woke up and went to open the door. He spoke to the man outside. Then he came back and checked the electricity meter box. He took a phone charger and went outside again. They continued talking in their mother tongue and I couldn’t understand them,” she said, adding that she was still in bed.
“They spoke calmly for a few minutes. My boyfriend came inside and the man followed, carrying an axe. He then hit him at the back of his head and he fell on the coffee table. The man hit him again on the body and told me to keep quiet. Scared, I froze. He then pulled him down from the table and hit him repeatedly on the head. There was blood all over,” she said.
Ncane said she thought she was next, and even said a little prayer to God to save her.
“When he was done, he left. Moments later, I heard the gate opening and closing. I then heard my lover drawing his last breath. I ran out and started screaming for help.”
Residents then embarked on a manhunt, looking for the man after the incident. They also burnt down his shack.
A resident (38) said they went out looking for the man, but their search was in vein.
