THE ANC leadership in Mpumalanga has yet to decide on Mandla Msibi's fate for his position as MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

Provincial secretary Muzi Chirwa said this during a media briefing on Wednesday, 10 April.

This after the Provincial Disciplinary Committee suspended him for violating the ANC constitution in January 2024 after engaging in disruptive conduct and sabotaging the ANC 8 January celebration programmes which were held in Mpumalanga.

In January, the Provincial Working Committee (PWC) suspended Msibi's membership pending the disciplinary proceedings.

In a letter dated 19 January, the PWC said it noted Msibi's behavior at the organisation's rally that was held in Pienaar in which he addressed ANC members and the community demanding that President Cyril Ramaphosa come and address them and also convene a special meeting to decide on the Nkosi City project prior to the 8 January statement.

Chirwa said the PEC will meet to discuss Msibi's future as a sanction has already been given.

"The officials will be meeting as a sanction has already been given to look into that. The provincial secretary is empowered to advise the member concerned on how he must be participating as a member of the employee of the ANC in government. Earlier on, it was a suspension; we deemed it not fit to do so, but at this point in time, you can see that there is a verdict on sanction; it is a matter that the officials will look at it," he said.

Msibi's right-hand man, Sibusiso Mdluli, has since been expelled from the organisation with immediate effect.

Chirwa said the party would engage with branches so that they could resume all the party's campaign processes at full speed. He said that for now, the ANC is focusing on remaining victorious.

"We are focusing on the ANC's campaign. We have our hands tied on the ANC winning the elections. The ANC remains the home and hope of South Africans," he said.

In 2021, Msibi had to adhere to the party's step-aside rule after he was charged with the murder and attempted murder of two ANC members who were gunned down at Coyotes Lounge in Mbombela.

The multi-billion rand Nkosi City project is the brainchild of Msibi which will be situated on a more than 900 hectare of land in Pienaar where he lives.

The land borders the world-renowned park, Kruger National Park. It is expected to create at least 15 000 jobs.
