SHE was tired of being abused, so she left the relationship and moved on with her life.
But her jealous and abusive ex-boyfriend still clung to her even after a year.
On Tuesday, 16 August, he allegedly went to her shack and demanded to see her.
However, the 38-year-old woman from Ivory Park in Midrand refused to open for him.
So the man allegedly kicked the door open and shot the woman several times.
She’s now in hospital fighting for her life with one of the bullets lodged in her jaw.
The suspect, her 40-year-old ex-boyfriend, was arrested on Friday, 19 August.
Captain Bernard Matimulane of Ivory Park Police Station said the suspect is charged with attempted murder.
He said the ex-boyfriend found the woman with her new man and he wanted to shoot him as well, but he escaped unharmed.
“After the incident, he fled the area but was eventually captured after an intensive search. The victim is still in hospital with one bullet still lodged in her jaw,” he said.
Ivory Park station commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo urged victims or potential victims or domestic violence to seek help as soon as the signs begin to show.
Some of the controlling signs include deciding for the victim who they should relate and not relate with, stalking, and going through phones.
“Victims should guard against the above behaviour and seek help as soon as possible, preferably from the police or from their families. Help is available for victims of gender-based violence residing within the Ivory Park SAPS policing precinct from its victims’ empowerment centre which operates on a 24-hour basis. And victims can always call CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or 112 from their cellphones,” said Ngcobo.
The suspect appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates Court on Monday, 22 August and will make his second appearance on 6 September.
