A PLANE spotted at a Soshanguve church in Tshwane last week set social media abuzz, with over five hundred thousand users spreading false information and bashing Soshanguve (Jukulyn).
Social media users said the plane was recovered at a gangster's house after being stolen.
"I didn't steal it. I bought it cash from a white man who no longer wanted it," said Pastor Joseph Davhula.
The pastor explained that after he bought it, he wanted to use it at his plot in Onderstepoort in Tshwane for special occasions and events, such as weddings, birthday celebrations, and matric dances, to make it fun for people to enjoy.
"I saw the plane's advertisement on Facebook Marketplace in 2020, went to view it, and bought it for R60k from a former pastor," he said.
Davhula told Daily Sun that he's now using it as a trailer, touring around townships and preaching the word of God, but he said his plans are underway to get the plane fixed and functioning.
"It doesn't have an engine and accessories such as a gearbox, dashboard, wheel screen, pedals, side wheel-screen, steering wheel, and seats so it can move," Davhula said.
He said that he bought it without wings and that he didn't need them as he wouldn't fly the plane in the air.
Davhula said he didn't want to discuss his plane plans, but the trending bogus news pushed him to address the users and explain himself to others.
"The number on the craft has the history of the aeroplane. Anyone with doubts can google it to find out who the previous and current owner is," he said.
He said it previously flew at Wonderboom Airport.
"I'm extremely concerned and worried about people who promote fake news because they need to be born again. If you know you're spreading fake news, you're possessed because fake news is demonic," Davhula said.
The plane is being moved to Stinkwater in Hammanskraal for a month-long resurrection service.
On its journey there, it received a puncher on Molefe Makinta Road. It turned into a display, causing more traffic because people took pictures with it.
