A 48-YEAR-OLD security guard lost his life during a daring armed robbery at a Cash Loan Company in Lebowakgomo chopping complex, Limpopo.

The incident occurred at about 1pm on Tuesday, 5 December.

According to preliminary reports, four armed suspects forcibly entered the company and demanded cash at gunpoint.

A witness told Daily Sun that the incident caught him off guard while he was enjoying his shopping.

"The incident was heartbreaking, and most of the shoppers ran for cover immediately after hearing the first gunshot. It's a day I will never forget. We no longer feel safe, especially during this festive season," said the witness.

During the robbery, a security officer responded to the scene, leading to a fatal confrontation between him and the assailants. The suspects then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Limpopo police spokesman Hlulani Mashaba said the 48-year-old security officer was wounded and certified dead at the scene.

“One of the suspects was also wounded, and his accomplices assisted him as they fled the scene in the latest charcoal Ford Ranger double cab with a Mpumalanga registration number. Police investigations continue,” said Mashaba.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has ordered an immediate probe into the incident and the swift apprehension of the suspects. Cops urge the public to provide information about the suspect who sustained a gunshot wound and might be admitted to the hospital.
