148 undocumented Malawian nationals jailed in Zimbabwe

ZIMBABWE has jailed 148 undocumented Malawian nationals.

On Monday, 29 August, Malawi Freedom Network reported that the 148 nationals were sentenced to between four and six months in prison while awaiting deportation.

It is also reported that the undocumented nationals were sentenced by Chivhu and Mvuma magistrates respectively.

The local media reported that 65 travellers were arrested by cops in Chivhu, while 83 others were bust in Mvuma.

“Chivhu Magistrate Henry Sande sentenced the group of 65 to four months imprisonment, wholly suspended pending deportation,” the article read

According to the publication, prosecutors told the court on Monday that cops were conducting a roadblock along Harare-Masvingo Road when they intercepted 65 Malawians travelling by road.

Meanwhile, 83 other Malawian nationals were bust at the 188-kilometre peg along Chivhu-Masvingo road and were sentenced to six months imprisonment wholly suspended pending deportation.
