HARD work and sacrifice have paid off for matriculants who passed with flying colours.
The pupils from different schools attended Saturday classes at Karabo Centre for Maths, Science and Commence in 2023.
The pupils’ dedication has borne fruit as they passed matric with very good marks.
On Saturday, 20 January at Vosloorus Comprehensive in Ekurhuleni, the class of 2023 told Daily Sun how Karabo has helped them to achieve the best results.
Njabulo Mabena from Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni who was a pupil at Sunward Park Secondary School, scooped seven distinctions out of the eight subjects he wrote.
The subjects include maths, physical science, life science and engineering and graphic design, among others.
“I feel that this achievement is monumental, and it's a true testament to the hard work I've been putting ever since I started attending at Karabo Centre.
“For me, school was not just about going there because I've been sent by my parents. But it became a passion and something that I genuinely loved,” said Njabulo.

He said without commitment and consistency, it's very rare to succeed in life.
“Those of us who started working hard at the beginning of the year are the ones who're enjoying the highest marks right now. So, hard work does pay off.
"I'd like to urge the class of 2024 to start working hard at the beginning of the year and they will reap the fruit of their labour at the end of the year,” said Njabulo.
He said he had applied to study actuarial science at Wits University and has been accepted, adding that he has no but hopes to get it soon.
“Knowing my financial background at home, my parents wouldn't be able to cover the fees themselves, so I really will need help with the finances.”
Maemu Libunyu (18) from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni, who was a pupil at Phumlani Secondary School, obtained seven distinctions and is going to study medicine at the University of Cape Town.
She said Karabo centre has helped her to learn self-discipline.
“They have a way of teaching us how to study alone. They used past exam questions to build up our minds. This has helped us to understand questions in different ways,” said Maemu.
The director at Karabo centre, Collin Forga, said they're happy with the pupils’ achievements.
He said they have 14 teachers, and they assist pupils from grades 9 to 12 with extra lessons on weekends.
Collin said they had 60 pupils who were writing matric in 2023 and they all received above 60% and distinctions in subjects such as maths, accounting and physical science.
“We started the project in 2013 and it has successfully produced 780 beneficiaries who have been to universities."
He said they have companies who assist pupils with bursaries.
