A TOP pupil from the Centre for Science and Technology (COSAT) from Khayelitsha, Cape Town, Ntsika Madondile(17), said his sleepless nights paid off.
Ntsika scooped seven distinctions, including a 100% in Information Technology.
He said sometimes he would sleep at 4am and wake up at 6am, resting for only two hours.
Only two learners scooped seven distinctions at the school, but Ntsika came up on top since he had higher marks.
Ntsika believes that the good marks were not a mistake, as he did all he could to ensure he understood his schoolwork.
“I gave it my all to achieve this, and I’m happy that my effort didn’t go to waste. It was a difficult time because we had COVID-19 and load shedding that stood in the way, but I knew what I wanted, and I kept my eye on the prize,” he said.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Ntsika said his effort didn’t just end in class and the information he received from teachers.
He would go out and search for more information on the internet to broaden his understanding.
“I would sometimes watch YouTube videos to further deepen my understanding,” he said.

Mother Nokuzola Madondile (46) said she was expecting her son to pass because of his hard work.
“You would not see him walking around on the streets; he was always in the house, not playing games but busy with his books. His books were his best friends,” she said.
Because the family lives in Makhaza, the mother said she would ensure that he had school transport.
“He used to walk, but we thought about his safety and also for him to get enough time to study, we got scholar transport for him,” she said.
Ntsika will be studying Computer Science at the University of Cape Town.
The family doesn’t have to worry about school fees since he has secured a scholarship already.
Principal Tiro Motaung said the top five learners in Information Technology will get laptops from a certain company.
