In 2022, Vezukhono Secondary School achieved a matric pass rate of 90,59%.

Last year, the teachers worked even harder and surprisingly, the school achieved a 95% pass rate.

Since receiving the results, the school at Barcelona in Etwatwa, Ekurhuleni has been celebrating.

SGB chairwoman Tshidi Nyembe (70) even wore the school uniform in honour of Vezukhono.

"The days of parents sending their kids to schools outside the kasi are over. Things have changed. I wear this uniform with pride because it symbolises hard work and success," she said.

The best pupils at Vezukhono achieved 54 distinctions, and the majority of them passed.

Staff at the school said extra lessons and hard work brought them to where they are today and this year, they want to do even better.

Some of the top achievers are Smatzy Nyakedi who obtained five distinctions, Solomon Chitango who got four distinctions, Thamsanqa Magenegene who also obtained four distinctions and Sohle Zulu who obtained three distinctions.

The class of 2023, which surprised many, is the first to have achieved such outstanding results.

The Department of Basic Education described the class of 2023 as the best brains since the dawn of democracy in Mzansi.
