A WARM welcome awaited Zakhele “Zakes Bantwini” Madida when he arrived at the King Shaka International Airport on Thursday, 16 February.
He was going to set foot at his home in KwaMashu, Durban, after scooping a Grammy award alongside Nomcebo Zikode and Wouter Kellerman with their song, titled Bayethe.
Durban residents and artists, including Zakwe, DJ Sox and Tzozo, were at the airport to welcome him in style.

Zakes said he hopes Nomcebo will get the same kind of welcome when she arrives in Durban on 23 February.
“You can travel the world, but you need to come home to your home.
“I was doing my work and I was not doing it to get a hero’s welcome, but I’m happy to get it,” Zakes told Daily Sun.
He said that his name is still being put on the award and when he gets it, he will organise a big festival.
“I want the celebration to be big and to be held at a stadium,” he said.
“I encourage the eThekwini Municipality to come closer to us as artists and sponsor our events because we promote Durban wherever we go,” he said.
DJ Sox said Zakes is a true example of someone doing something good when they are focused.

“I encourage all artists to work hard to be like Zakes because I have known him for many years, pushing his career,” he said.
“Artists who are struggling should look up to Zakes and they will find their success.”
eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said Zakes is a true ambassador for Durban because he always says that he comes from the area.
“Zakes has always raised our flag. Many people say that there will be no stars coming from the townships, but Zakes did it,” he said.
