IDOLS SA said goodbye to Lungile during their live show in Fairlands in Joburg on Saturday evening, 9 September.

The theme for this week’s show was songs that make weddings fun and the judges came to the show in stunning wedding attires.

First to grace the stage with a performance was Niikiey who did a rendition of Mmatswale by Malaika. Somizi Mhlongo said if she wants to make money, she must stick to the genre.

“Your voice is warm and comforting and what I like about you, you kept it and gave it a simplicity it needs,” he said.

Thembi Seete said she loves the tone and texture of her voice. “I had a great time, this is for you baby,” she said.

JR said she was nothing short of amazing. “I think you have a long way to go, not just on Idols,” he said.

Lungelo followed, who sang At Last by Etta James.

Thembi said it felt like she was in a movie scene or jazz lounge. “You looked amazing and your voice is clean. How you finished it was for me a knock down, well done,” she said.

JR said they are fortunate to hear the best performances every weekend.

Somizi, imitating Thembi, said it was bright and had colours.

Faith was the next one on stage and he performed Matswale by Caiphus Semeya. JR said no one ever goes wrong with classics like.

“There is no need to over sing the song. But otherwise, good job,” he said.

Somizi disagreed with JR. “You sang this song like Faith. Stop being shy, we want more of you because you have everything,” he said.

Thembi said she was nervous when he started, but he made it his own and sang well.

Join the top nine team was Nkosi who gave a rendition of Ekhwen Lami by Phila Dlozi.

Somizi said the performance was soulful and mellow.

He said:

Keep it like that, if it’s not broken don’t fix it.

Thembi felt different, she felt like Nkosi was holding back. JR said he liked the performance but felt like he didn’t take charge.

“We can listen to a great song for song long, but you have to find your selling point,” he said.

Following on stage was Thando who sang Is This Love by Bob Marley.

Thembi said he could do much better. “You are too careful and if you can just relax then we’ll talk again,” she said.

JR said he must up it up and Somizi said he is dimming his light and confidence.

Princess gave a rendition of Phakade by Lira.

JR said she delivers every week, while Somizi said the performance was flawless vocal. Thembi said she had everything but presence on stage.

Next on the mic was Thabo who performed Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years.

Somizi said all he needed was 30 seconds more. “I had goose bumps on my knees. What you did today was authentic,” he said.

Thembi said he is a hard-working performer. “This was a phenomenon performance,” she said.

JR said when he heard he would be singing the song he was nervous, but he nailed it and he asked Somizi to give him a Whooo Shame.

The next person to sing was Envic who gave a rendition of Jamie Fox’s version of When I first Saw You.

Thembi said it wasn’t his night. “There was something missing today, I don’t know if you didn’t have enough time to rehearse or you were nervous,”

JR shared Thembi and Somizi's sentiments and said it was like a bad dream.

Closing the show was Sena who sang Stevey Wonder's All I Do.

JR said it was straight to the point.
