FORMER Orlando Pirates player Thamsanqa Gabuza is out on R3 000 bail.

This comes after he was charged with malicious damage to property.

The 36-year-old made a brief appearance in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 22 November.

He will appear again on 11 December as more investigations still need to be done.

This was his first appearance after handing himself over to the cops at Bramley Police Station, Joburg on Tuesday, 21 November.

During his appearance, Magistrate Peggy Senne granted him R3 000 bail after his defence lawyer Themba Ngobeni said it was still the middle of the month and he hadn't been paid.

Tshiego Deka read out his bail conditions, saying he must not go near the complainant or be in communication with her.

She said he must attend all his court hearings and not commit a similar offence as he will be taken back to jail.

The player was investigated by the police after a case of attempted rape, malicious damage to property and domestic violence was opened against him on 11 November.

The SunTeam witnessed the star player as he presented himself to detectives at the Joburg cop shop around lunchtime.

Wearing an orange T-shirt, the former Bafana Bafana forward casually strolled into the premises before exchanging greetings with the officers.

He was whisked into the building before the victim arrived for a mandatory pointing out process of the suspect.

According to officers with knowledge of the case, the star player was then taken to a police holding cell, where he was detained overnight.

The 31-year-old woman, who is an online teacher, previously spoke to Daily Sun about her ordeal, allegedly at the hands of the veteran player.

She said she met the man in 2021, and they became friends before trying out a romantic relationship, which never worked. On the other hand, the player claimed that the woman was his wife.

His defence lawyer Themba Ngobeni told the SunTeam he was only charged for malicious damage to property.

He said he was happy that he was granted bail, and the police would do further investigations. When asked about other charges, he said he couldn't comment on this matter.
