THE cause of death of the late presenter has been revealed.

Popular Ukhozi FM presenter Bheka "Beekay" Mchunu passed away on Tuesday, 12 March.

His brother, Sfiso Mchunu, told Daily Sun that Beekay was complaining about something on his chest.

The presenter died at 45.

The KZN-based presenter died while being rushed to the hospital.

Sfiso said he was still shocked as he died next to him.

"He complained about something on his chest.

"I was trying to rush him to the hospital. Everything happened in front of me.

"I thought there was something they were going to do to help him. It was already late," he said.

Sfiso said he was hurt as he meant everything to him and his family, including everyone.

He said it's not easy to accept that he is no more.

"I still don't believe that he is gone just like that. He was a beautiful soul.

"He helped many people, including young people. He loved helping matric pupils get better results with his Matric upgrade programs," he said.

Sfiso said he is grateful for the messages he has been receiving.

"Many people enjoyed his time. He was loved and appreciated by lots of people," he said.

Beekay hosted the Kanye Nawe show, airing from 12:30pm to 3pm.

The show aired from Monday to Friday every weekday.

Beekay was the founder and director of KZN Matric Excellence.

He helped many students with upgrading their matric marks.

In 2021, the presenter collapsed at work, and was taken off air for three weeks to recuperate.

Beekay's radio profile has risen steadily over the past years, notably from Durban Youth Radio.

This is where he was doing a late-night show called Lovers Nest on weekdays.

The details of his memorial and funeral service are yet to be revealed.

Economic Freedom Fighters in KZN paid tribute to the fallen presenter.

"The Economic Freedom Fighters in KwaZulu-Natal mourns the passing of Ukhozi FM seasoned broadcaster Bheka "Beekay" Mchunu, who passed away last night [Tuesday, 12 March].

"Mchunu was well-known for presenting "Sigiya Nengoma" a weekend maskandi show that has a platform more than 2 million listeners, was a cultural ambassador who used radio as a platform to promote culture, indigenous languages, and cultural music," they said.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and Ukhozi FM also released a statement on the presenter's death.

"Beekay, as he was affectionately known, was a cherished member of the SABC family and a beloved co-host of one of Ukhozi FM's most prominent shows, "Sigiya Ngengoma." Throughout his tenure on the airwaves, Beekay's vibrant personality and unwavering passion for music brought joy to countless listeners.

"He joined Ukhozi FM in 2011 and worked on various shows like Sibhukuda Kwesimanzonzo, Sithakela Isizwe, Kanye Nawe, Itende Lomcimbi as well as Sigiya Ngengoma. His presence was not only felt through the waves but also within the hearts of those who tuned in, making him an indispensable part of the Ukhozi FM family," the statement read.

Dudu Khoza, Ukhozi FM presenter, said she didn't have words to say about the presenter's death.

"Words cannot express enough how I feel right now. My condolences to Mchunu's family," she said.

Zimiphi 'Zimdollar' Biyela said: "We are crying with you as the Ukhozi team. We wish those affected by his death well."
