THIS popular DJ has set her site on bringing life to what people call Monday blues.

DJ Hlo is now a resident DJ on Gagasi FM, a commercial radio station based in Cornubia Mall, north of Durban in KZN.

The 26-year-old DJ, whose real name is Hlosiwe Mthalane, wants to make Gagasi FM listeners dance on Mondays in a midday show called Midday Connexion, hosted by DJ Sonic and Khaya Mthethwa.

She mixes music live on air and the mix is called The Connexion Mix.

DJ Hlo, who surprised many when she became the first female DJ to win the Ukhozi FM Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka in 2021, said it means a lot to her to work as a DJ for one of the biggest radio stations.

"I was approached by Gagasi after deejaying live on the DJ Happy Gal show and I said yes. What I like about this is that I mix music live on air and make the listeners dance.

"I also get to show listeners that my DJ talent is not limited to amapiano only, but that I also play other genres like gqom, deep and Afro-house," she said.

The Isibani hitmaker said she started her live music mix on Gagasi FM in January 2024 and has been warmly received by Gagasi FM listeners.

In 2023, DJ Hlo was honoured as the Best Star Club DJ of the Year at the Shining Star Africa Awards held at Cotton Lounge in Sandton.
