DJ Hlo (24) is set to play the closing set at the Shining Africa Stars Awards.
She will also be representing Mzansi in the category of Best Star Club DJ of the Year. She'll compete with DJ Charlz from Tanzania and DJ Nelly in this category.
The event takes place at Cotton Lounge in Sandton, north of Joburg on Saturday, 2 September.
She told Daily Sun that this is a big milestone for her.
“I can confirm that I will attend this event as a nominee and a club DJ. But what is even more interesting is that I'll be closing the event. This is a big deal for me because it means I am actually the main act for the event. So, I’m quite excited about this opportunity because international guests will get to see my work. I also hope this opportunity will open doors for me,” said DJ Hlo.

“I would also like to thank my fans for this opportunity. Without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Even in this competition, they continued to support me. I urge them to continue voting for me so I can win this award,” she said.
It's not the first time Hlo represents South Africa. In 2022, she was nominated for the Zikomo Awards in Lusaka, Zambia, but did not win.
“An international nomination means a lot to me, but winning the award will be the cherry on top. So, even if I don’t win on Saturday, I’d still appreciate the recognition given to my work. At least my name will go down in history and be mentioned with these international stars,” she said.
DJ Hlo became popular when she won Ingoma ehlukanisa unyaka 2021 on Ukhozi FM.
She said that her music journey has not been easy, but she overlooked the haters.
“When I started, I knew it wouldn’t be easy. So, I don’t entertain negativity. I’d rather spend my energy on people who bring positivity into my life,” she said.
