Siya Mhlongo will work for both Metro FM and Ukhozi FM.

WHEN the radio stations Ukhozi FM and Metro FM announced their new line-ups, they both included Siya Mhlongo, which left listeners confused.

This is because starting from 1 April 2023, Siya will host the 5am to 6am morning show on weekdays on Metro FM and also host a show on Ukhozi FM from 8pm until midnight on Mondays to Thursdays.

Siya is making history as the first radio presenter to work for both Ukhozi and Metro at the same time.

The SABC confirmed that Metro FM and Ukhozi FM have worked out the working conditions for Siya to be able to serve both stations from any of the public braocaster's  premises.

As his weekday shows for both stations are separated by a few hours, he will not be able to use Ukhozi studios in Durban and Metro FM's studio in Joburg, so he will have to choose to be either in Durban or Joburg studios.

Last season, Siya co-hosted the Sunday morning show called The Sacred Space alongside Thami Ngubeni while doing a vodcast for Ukhozi called Ukhozi FM TV, which was launched last year.

Before that, Siya presented the Ukhozi drivetime show, but was removed from air to focus on the vodcast.

Siya told Daily Sun he wasn't allowed to comment in the media.

SABC acting group executive: Corporate Affairs and Marketing, Mmoni Seapolelo, confirmed that both radio stations had worked out Siya's working conditions.

“The SABC can confirm that Metro FM and Ukhozi FM management have worked out working conditions for Siya Mhlongo to be able to serve both stations from any of the SABC premises, as SABC facilities are designed to enable broadcasting from various parts of the country,” she said.
