THE late soccer player and analyst Siphiwe Mkhonza's life will be celebrated on Friday, 8 March.

The family spokesperson and former Siphiwe Mkhonza's agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane, said Mkhonza was a family man and a friend.

"What you saw on TV, is what he was. He is the same guy who is always joking, always part of the family, the team player. The good thing is that he is the guy who always looked after his children, and the good part is that he learned about the culture of being a family person," said Mahlakgane.

Mahlakgane mentioned that he was Mkhonza's guardian from the age of 15 when his family went through a difficult time and took him to Bloemfontein Celtic when he was 19.

"I raised him, and I was coaching him at Katlehong City as a group of young players. I took him to Celtic at the age of 18/19 that is how he broke into the PSL at that time," he said.

Mkhonza was the first footballer to work with Mahlakgane.

"He used to buy Purity. I never understood why he was eating Purities. He said they are making him stronger. I don't know when he stopped because he was an old man to be eating Purity," Added Mahlakgane.

His memorial service will be held at the SABC radio park on Friday, 8 March, from 12:00 to 2pm.
