JOYOUS Celebration singer Mnqobi Nxumalo is mourning his grandfather.
In an Instagram post, he described his mkhulu as his best friend.
He said his grandfather used to accompany him to school and would fetch him afterwards.
He wrote: “I was at rehearsal & the room practically became dark in my eyes when my mom said, ‘You have no mkhulu anymore, your friend just passed’. I treasured this man so much.
“This week I lost one of my absolute favourite people in the world, uMkhulu. This man used to drive me to school & back every day ... We had youth church at his house. When I was older and moved to Joburg, when I went home I would not make the mistake of not going to hang with him noGogo. He used to say he doesn’t see anyone on TV but when my face shows up, he sees clearly,” he said.
“He’d always share the word of God, tell me things about life, he was so protective! We’d reminisce, laugh, eat, I’d bring him some things. He’d speak blessings until I find a way to escape his house and go home.

“Sometimes I’d pick him up for his errands & we’d drive to so many places & I’d get confused why is this man such a labourer even at his age. Apart from a lot of things I picked up from him, one thing that always stood out was his love for God & his wife.
“This man loved his wife. It was like a dream. He was loved by the whole town & he had a million inherited grandkids. I don’t know how but this man was my friend I have so many fond memories of him. Anyway... Rest in peace Ndabezitha. The little boy in me is tarnished but in turn carries so much of everything you deposited while you were on this side of life. So I’m a big boy. We soldier on.”
His colleagues, fans and friends took turns comforting him.
