BUSINESSMAN Malcom X was one of the four suspects who appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday, 23 October.

The self-proclaimed philanthropist and three police officers Desmond Campbell Kekana (52), James Mpho Sekhaolela (45) and Raymond Mphuwa Mokaile (38) face two counts of corruption and extortion respectively.

"The suspects are alleged to have participated in corrupt activities when they solicited gratification to the tune of R580 000.

"This was done for a complainant to avoid arrest. It's alleged that three officers went to the complainant's residence to enquire about her passport and thereafter claimed that it contained forged immigration stamps. They later arrested her and during interrogation the trio allegedly demanded R2 million for her release.

"Malcolm X was the alleged middleman in facilitating the payment. In enticing the family, they threatened to arrest her son as well. The complainant relented and the payment of R580 000 was agreed to, after which the complainant was released," the statement said.
