Chicken from KwaNjomane said people will get to know him more on season 2.

REALITY TV star Chicken spent the first season of KwaNjomane coming out to his family as a gay man.

Now, the Mzansi Wethu show is returning for season 2 and Chicken, whose real name is Sbonelo Mhlongo (23), is finally living freely as a gay man.

The social media star spoke to Daily Sun about coming out to his family, filming season 2 of the reality TV show and getting engaged.

“Honestly, I’ve never been in the closet. For me, when I came out to my family, I didn’t know why I was doing it because it was obvious. But coming out on my father’s side of the family was difficult. They live a different life and I knew it would be hard for them to understand me.

“However, I feel like it was easier with cameras on. They made my coming out a bit easier than I had anticipated. I knew they wouldn’t just disown me while cameras were filming; they were going to have to speak to me,” he said.

Since coming out, Chicken has gotten engaged and is planning his wedding. He got engaged in October 2023.

“On season 2, people can expect a new man in my life. I’m engaged now. Viewers can expect to see me go through my journey of being engaged. I’m in the process of getting married, and they will also just be getting deeper into my life and getting to know Chicken.

“The man I’m engaged to, I started dating around July 2023 and we got engaged in October. I’m in a happy relationship, I’m being treated like the king I am. Ever since I’ve been engaged. I’ve been happy. The drama that happens at home, I ignore it. I’m trying to focus on my happy life, I don’t want distractions.

When asked more about when he’s getting married, he said: “You’ll get to see more of that on season 2.”

He struggled with self-acceptance in season 1; he said he worked on that and is okay now.

“I’ve been over that; I’ve accepted myself fully. I love who Chicken is, and I love who he is becoming,” he said.
