NEW telenovela Sibongile & The Dlaminis has made history by breaking viewership records in its first season.

The Mzansi Wethu's first original telenovela has recorded one million viewers and became the most watched in its prized slot.

The telenovela premiered on Mondy, 31 July on DStv channel 163 with top actors such as Luyanda Zwane, Vuyo Biyela, Slindile Nodangala, Bhekani Shabalala, and Siyabonga Shibe.

The show's success story has an astonishing 341% increase in viewership for its time slot as of October, compared to the previous year for content during that window.

This massive growth shows Sibongile & The Dlaminis' mass appeal and connection with a wide audience base.

Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net Shirley Adonisi said the show is more than a telenovela.

"It combines dreams, love, sacrifices, and complex family relationships. Rhythm World Productions has developed a story that's both engaging and highly relatable, making Sibongile & The Dlaminis an important part of our viewer's daily lives," Shirley said.

The show has added a new, talented cast to shake things up and keep the viewers glued to their TVs.

The cast that was recently added was Smangele Mhlongo, who made a name for herself in the role of Maka Chicken in KwaNjomane and seasoned actor Melusi Yeni.

Smangele plays Sokhabase's aunt, while Melusi is playing Stanley Sokhabase.

The show airs every Monday to Wednesday at 6.30pm on Mzansi Wethu.
