RAPPER Big Zulu was defeated by well-known businessman Phumlani Njilo in their celebrity boxing match called Impi The War.

Their boxing match was held at Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Saturday, 9 December, and was attended by celebrities such as DJ Tira and Hlengiwe Mhlaba.

The match was judged by three judges and one of them said the match was a draw while two of them said Phumlani was the winner.

The venue had many people supporting Phumlani as they chanted his surname during the fight.

Phumlani (30) is the CEO of Induduzo Bespoke Funerals and comes from a charismatic Njilo family in Pietermaritzburg.

His father is Themba Njilo, a popular philanthropist, while his brother is Nzuzo Njilo, Faith Nketsi’s estranged husband.

At the end of the fight, Big Zulu wasn't happy about the judges' decision, saying Phumlani kept holding him in four rounds, but he congratulated him.

Big Zulu, whose real name is Siyabonga Nene (37), said he doesn’t believe he did something wrong during their fight.

“What Phumlani did, I think he was trying to get me tired. He was holding me too much. He was holding even my feet."

“I’m not disagreeing that he defeated me. He threw many punches and most of them didn’t hit me and knows that I shielded his punches. I wonder how he won when he was holding my feet. I congratulate him. He worked hard, maybe I’m the one who doesn’t know boxing rules,” he said.

Phumlani said it was like facing Goliath, but thanked the support he got during the fight that made him stand against Big Zulu.

“The fight was difficult. My coach instructed me to punch Big Zulu in the stomach to get him tired.

“I was lucky that in the venue I heard many people calling my surname and I was encouraged to fight more and not fear Big Zulu,” he said.

DJ Tira said the fight was the warmup and he's still waiting for the real one between Big Zulu and Cassper Nyovest.
