BOKONE Bophirima’s biggest music festival, Mahika Mahikeng, is here to stay.

The festival returned earlier in 2023 after a three-year break with big stars such as Bucy Radebe, Joyous Celebration and Benjamin Dube.

Now they will be hosting again, bringing international star Karyn White.

The sixth instalment will be a four-day event from 7 December to 10 December at Mmabatho Stadium.

Karyn, known for her hits Superwoman, I’d Rather Be Alone, and The Way You Love Me, will bless Mzansi with her presence again after being in the country in 2022. She performed at the SunBet Arena in Tshwane and Grand West Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town in August 2022.

The 58-year-old songstress is set to perform on the last day of the festival alongside soulful musicians such as Judith Sephuma, Jaziel Brothers, Mdu Masilela, Blaq Diamond and Tshedi Moholo.

The first day will kick off with a comedy night led by comedians such as Salesman, DJ Big Boy and Karabo Selau. Day two will see performances by DJ Tira, Nkosazana Daughter, Daliwonga, De Mthuda, Mo Molemi, Hash One, as well as DBN Gogo.

The third day is reserved for gospel music lovers with performances by Barorisi Ba Morena, Pure Sounds, Thato Ya Hao Artist Movement, Di Bruin Gospel Project, Refentse Gospel Choir, Impact Gospel Group, and Arabian Force Brass Band.

Speaking about the return of the show, Thabo Mabe, the chief director for Arts, Heritage and Libraries at the Department of Arts and Culture in the North West, said the festival is their province’s pride.

“The festival’s return is not only a victorious feat but also a provincial pride. We are excited to know that the mandate of promoting cultural and heritage tourism, as well as celebrating the artists from this region with the rest of the nation, will continue.

“The Department of Arts and Culture in the North West continues to support this shining flagship programme that represents cultural diversity, social cohesion, reconciliation, peace and economic development within the province at large,” Mabe said.

The department promised an exhilarating three days.

“And just like its previous three-day fair, this 6th rodeo of Mahika Mahikeng promises a melting pot of musical powerhouses from the likes of the Scorpion Kings, Nasty C, Big Zulu, Judith Sephuma, Vusi Nova, Cici and the iconic Barorisi Ba Morena among the many talents acts lined up; all merging together to create a sonic experience that is a display of pure patriotism to Mzansi’s limitless talents,” they said.
