The billionaires DJs Karabo and Ngcebo say their music heals people.

PUBLICIST and artist manager Ngcebo Mdima is done being in the background and serving celebrities.

He has represented some of the biggest musicians in Mzansi, including DJ Ganyani, TNS, DJ Sithelo, Prince Kaybee, DJ Merlon, Zakes Bantwini and many others.

He’s now a DJ and producer and is at the forefront.

He joined forces with his business partner and romantic partner, Karabo Motlogelwa (29) and formed a music duo called The Billionaires DJs.

They spoke to Daily Sun about getting into the spotlight.

Ngcebo (38) said he knew he would eventually be a musician.

“When I was young, I knew I wanted to be in the entertainment space. After matriculating, I decided to leave home in KwaZulu Natal and pursue a life in entertainment in Joburg. I studied PR and communications, and I got an internship at Isidingo.

“However, I got bored, and that’s when I met DJ Ganyani. He taught me the ropes and everything I needed to know about music,” Ngcebo said.

Karabo, on the other hand, has always been a musician from a young age.

“My love for music started from an early age because even in school when we had to choose subjects, I knew I wanted to choose music. I played the marimba and flute while growing up, and I’m currently learning how to play the violin right now,” he said.

In 2020, they decided to pursue their love for music and start producing.

“During the peak of Covid-19, we decided we needed to learn how to DJ and produce. We brought in our experienced friends to help us and learned everything we needed to learn. We’ve been focusing on our careers for now.

“We’re still doing PR through our company, Charlie Communications, but we don’t focus on it. We do PR from Tuesday to Thursday, then Friday to Monday, we focus on our music and gigging,” they said.

They released their debut EP titled Sons Of The Soil in August, and the themes around the project were love, unity and spirituality.

“We chose those themes because they are a universal language. We wanted our music to transcend through that. We also wanted to accommodate everyone, from those who’ve just found new love, ones on a spiritual journey or those who want to unite different people,” Karabo said.

“We featured Indlovukazi in one of the songs because we were looking for vocals that are tribal and would be able to communicate our lyrics to people. I believe we heal people through music, especially those with wounded souls,” Ngcebo said.
