MUSICIAN and dancer, Sibusiso "Mgijimi" Masondo, has honoured his late mum Nanini Gabela by naming his record label after her.
The 38-year-old from Hammarsdale in Durban, who has danced for musicians such as Jabu Khanyile, Ihashi Elimhlophe, Professor and DJ Clock, said he wants to give others a chance to shine through his record label, Nanini Music.
Mgijimi, who was signed by Kalawa Jazmee and worked with Professor Langa’s record company, Proper Files Company and DJ Clock's record company AM/PM Production, has also released a gqom/house single titled Ipiki featuring up-and-coming artists Mimi and Mngqongqozi.
He told Daily Sun he was forced to relocate to Joburg to seek better opportunities when his mum died in 2002.
“My mother supported me when I started dancing at a young age. But life became difficult when she died in 2002. That's why I have decided to start my company and help others not to face the same difficulties I faced when I was in Johannesburg looking for greener pastures,” he said.

Mgijimi said he faced many difficulties when he arrived in Joburg and ended up sleeping in the streets until he met Vukani Khoza of Skomplazi.
“I then joined a dance school called African Child. I got the opportunity to work with different artists. I've worked with Ihashi Elimhlophe, DJ Nkoh, Jabu Khanyile, Amaponi, Lebo Mathosa, Stiff, Skomplazi, DJ Clock, Mzekezeke, Brickz, Mtshengiseni, Pex Africa, Professor, Character, Majoy, Uhuru, Bhar and many more,” he said.
He said he travelled to many countries like Germany, Jamaica, China, Japan, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Botswana and Lesotho with Jabu Khanyile.
“I also released many hit songs with Professor and DJ Clock, and I got more experience. I decided to start my own music company because I've grown and want to help others. I've discovered two and I'm still searching for more,” he said.
