MZANSI, brace yourselves for TV’s most dangerous family.

The River is about to introduce the Hlophes, a family that’s all about violence.

The family is led by the patriarch, Bukhosi, played by Bheki Mkhwane. The role of the mum, Nomafu, is played by Brenda Mhlongo and the kids are Mlilo, (Vuyo Biyela), Nkanyiso (Unathi Mkhize) and Khwezi (Tina Dlathu).

Vuyo (27), who is from Umlazi in KZN, spoke to SunBuzz about the Hlophes and said viewers must gear up for a rocky ride.

“The family is involved in heists. That’s where their income comes from. Bukhosi was previously in the military and now he is the king of heists.”

Speaking about his character, Vuyo said: “Mlilo is a broken man. He didn’t grow up with his father because he was at war. He had to drop out of school to help his mum because they had very little. Another thing that breaks him is that when his father finally comes home, he starts a relationship with another woman and leaves his mum.”

Vuyo studied drama at the Durban University of Technology. The actor, who has featured in theatre productions before, said getting a role in the multi-award-winning show is a dream come true. “Sometimes I feel like it is a dream,” he said.

Catch The River on 1Magic (DStv channel 103) weekdays at 8pm.
