Jessica Mbangeni said wars must be stopped.

SHE believes war can be prevented by embracing cultures and diversity.

South African poet and singer Jessica Mbangeni said she wants the world to be better and more peaceful.

Jessica believes mindsets will change with a song called Dawning Dawn.

She collaborated with international award-winning spoken-word artist and rapper Dr Kaden Lebray on the track.

The 46-year-old from Nqamakwe, Eastern Cape, rose to prominence after being a member of Soweto Gospel Choir in 2002.

She said she realised the world is beautiful but corrupted by greedy people.

“We, as people, have the power of humanity through love that can change the world and make it a better place to live, only if we can block the propaganda and unite and embrace our cultures and diversities."

She said she wrote the song in 2005 after she left South African group Soweto Gospel Choir.

“I was troubled by all the suffering and strife from wars that were taking place in Africa and across the world. Almost 20 years later, not much has changed. The song is as relevant now as it was when I wrote it from a point of pain."

Jessica said when Dr Kaden Lebray heard it, he was touched and wanted to lend his voice in the form of a collaboration.

“We made a few changes before recording it together and releasing it on all major streaming platforms,” she said.

The poet said the song has received positive feedback from people of all age groups.

“Many people want to collaborate on this song because it's a powerful track," she said.

“We are Africans, and we need to embrace our diversity. We are standing right in the heart of Africa; South Africa defeated the apartheid system. We are saying no more wars."

Jessica said that she isn’t pleased with different wars.

“There mustn’t be any gender-based violence, this is war, human trafficking, that is war. God is not pleased with the laws of the world for life is not pleased with this. So, we bring light and with this song, we are changing the mindset and saying no more bullying at school and in families."

The singer said civil conversations to resolve issues and differences must come forth.

"Leadership, traditional leaders and academics must bring a conversation to the table."
