ZAHARA Mkutukana will be remembered in her hometown in East London, Eastern Cape.
The Loliwe hitmaker died at the age of 36 on 11 December after spending weeks at a Joburg hospital. Her memorial services will be held at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) on Friday, 22 December at 11am.
On 14 December, the multi-award-winning singer was also remembered at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Joburg.
That memorial service was attended by Zahara’s industry peers, friends, and fellow Eastern Cape native Vusi Nova, among other big names.
Zahara released five albums including her 2011 debut album Loliwe, which went double platinum. Her music inspired cultural pride and contributed to the promotion and development of the indigenous language, Xhosa.

MEC for the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC), Nonceba Kontsiwe said: “We can confirm that all systems are in place for the memorial service of Zahara. This is thanks to good working relations from the government, family, her industry, counterparts, and private individuals.
“The Eastern Cape provincial government working closely with the family has worked tirelessly to ensure that though Zahara did not receive an official provincial funeral, she got a proper and befitting funeral for her stature.
“We would like to thank private contributors who had lent a helping hand to ensure that Zahara got a befitting send-off,” said Kontsiwe.
Zahara's funeral will be held at the same venue (ICC) on Saturday, 23 December.
