THIS year’s birthday celebration of legendary kwaito star, Mapaputsi, will be one to remember.
Not only will he celebrate with his industry friends and family, but he’ll make a difference in Soweto by hosting a memorable music event called Mapaputsi’s Kasi Lami Birthday Celebration with Legends.
His birthday celebration will be on Saturday, 11 February and the event will take place at Zola 2 Community Grounds.
Some of the big industry giants such as Doc Shebeleza, Mdu, Spikiri, Jakarumba, Vetkoek and Mahoota, Mzambiya, Tzozo, Sbu Malawyer, General GTZ from Chiskop and Mgarimbe, will perform at the birthday celebration.
Mapaputsi, whose real name is Sandile Ngwenya, made a name for himself as a uniquely gifted performer in Mzansi. He’s widely recognised as one of the pioneers of kwaito.
His wish is to create a special and memorable experience for everybody attending this event.

As education has always been part of Mapaputsi’s DNA, he is committed to giving back to educational institutions which have shaped his future by donating food parcels and uniforms.
He said: “Education is a basic human right. My support of these schools contributes to the development of students through education. Without the education I received from these schools, I would not have been where I am today.”

Mapaputsi said he’ll continue to invest in education and mentorship to benefit and inspire current and future generations.
There will be a handover ceremony at one of the schools on Friday, 10 February.
Mapaputsi said that he plans to host his birthday celebration annually.
“All the sponsors who have come on board to support my upcoming birthday celebration will play a crucial role in turning my dream into reality,” he added.
