AMAPIANO artist Pabi Cooper feels humbled to be nominated for her first international award and she hopes to scoop it.
Pabi is nominated for a BET Award in the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act category. The awards will be held in Los Angeles, USA on Sunday, 25 June.
The Waga Bietje hitmaker told Daily Sun she can’t wait to be at the awards ceremony and to get the full experience of her first international nomination.
“I’m extremely humbled to be nominated. It is actually a very surreal feeling and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the nomination.
“It's a big deal to me; it is a reminder that I’m actually doing something and I’m on the right path and should keep going” she said.

She said she feels good to be a new international act and to represent Mzansi on an international stage against other overseas and African artists.
“The advantage South Africa has is that we have an eclectic group of people from multiple cultures and races. Thus, we are also known for our diverse dance style and the famous amapiano music genre that represents our country’s diverse culture and sets us apart from other countries.
“It's an honour to be recognised on an international level, so I don't take this position for granted,” she said.
She told Daily Sun that winning the international award would be a big achievement, but her biggest hope is to inspire other artists to keep going so they know that the sky is not the limit.
Pabi has won several awards in Mzansi including Artist of The Year at Basadi in Music Awards in 2022 for her hit song, Banyana ke Bafana featuring Focalistic, Ch’cco, Nobantu Vilakazi and Luu da Deejay.
