AMAPIANO DJ and producer Mr JazziQ recently launched a podcast called JazziQ and Friends in Conversation at Spitz.

JazziQ announced the news of his new podcast on Instagram and wrote: “ This Monday I bring to you South Africa’s first amapiano podcast hosted by yours truly. JazziQ and Friends in Conversation at Spitz.”

He released the first episode on 4 July on YouTube. In the first episode, Mr JazziQ is joined by amapiano and hip-hop artist Sizwe Alakine, also known as Reason, where they talk about hip-hop versus amapiano.

Speaking on the podcast, Mr JazziQ asked Sizwe: “What do you think about this whole thing happening between amapiano and hip-hop, the beef? I really find it so weak, kind of.”

Sizwe responded: “There is no beef between these things. I can advocate for this because when I go to shows, my sets are both the piano and hip-hop stuff. I will go back to your Rigorous, I will go back to your No Sleep Remix, so, I am doing both.

“The thing is, these kids light up when you are jumping from one to the other. In terms of the kids, the audience, they love both sounds. They do not have that ‘I only listen to hip-hop’ or ‘I only listen to piano’ mentality. So those on the other side who are having this ‘I only make piano’, ‘I only make hip-hop’, you are having that argument by yourselves,” he said.

Mr JazziQ went on to talk about how the culture of amapiano was influenced by hip-hop, like how wearing chains and other jewellery is taken from the hip-hop culture.
