CONTROVERSIAL former Ukhozi FM presenter Ngizwe Mchunu has smoked the peace pipe with KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala.

This comes after they allegedly almost came to blows at the Ingoma kaZwelonke Festival at Moses Madhiba Stadium in Durban on 4 June.

After their run-in, both rushed to Durban Police Station to open cases.

Ngizwe opened a common assault case against Zikalala, who opened cases of assault and crimen injuria against the former presenter.

Yesterday, 14 June, the two went back to the police station together to withdraw the charges.

Ngizwe told Daily Sun: “I arrived at this decision after engagements with traditional and faith-based leaders.

“In the Zulu nation, we have faced bloody wars in the past but all was resolved.

“As leaders, it’s important to lead by example and not make people fight.”

He said it was important for leaders to think about their followers.

“It is important to be united in our society,” he said.

Mpumelelo Zikalala of Zikalala Attorneys, representing the premier, told Daily Sun the charges were withdrawn after both parties sat down to talk.

“All parties are happy because they did the hand shaking and the case is over now,” he said.

Zikalala’s spokesman Lennox Mabaso said the decision was made peacefully.

“The office of the premier will not make any further comments and considers this matter closed.”

Colonel Athlenda Mathe confirmed the charges were withdrawn.
