ACTRESS and TV host Khanyisile “Khanyi” Mbau is set to be the first African female to be roasted by Comedy Central.

The 36-year-old told Daily Sun that she was excited as she would be empowering other women with the show.

“Women have been through a lot over the years. I believe the show will empower them to do better in their lives as the world is also changing,” she said.

The actress, who became famous for her role as Doobsie on SABC2 soapie Muvhango, said this would be a milestone for her in the television and film industry.

The Comedy Central Roast of Khanyi Mbau will be recorded live by Showmax next month and premiere on Comedy Central Africa (DStv channel 122) and Showmax in August.

Khanyi said as a woman of many talents, the show would give her an opportunity to showcase them.

“People often look at the roast for a strong-presence individual. I want to show the world that it’s for those who love humour and want to be inspired.”

She said the show was for everyone who loved to laugh, and that she had a great time on set.

Dillon Khan, vice president of Comedy Central, said they were excited to bring fun to Mzansi TV together with Showmax as their partner.

“After two years of the pandemic, we are ready to feel the roast and laugh in person,” he said.

Other celebrities who’ve been roasted included rapper AKA, TV and radio personality Somizi Mhlongo and Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr.
