GAUTENG police are investigating a case of murder after an alleged 7de Laan actor allegedly shot and killed his partner before attempting to take his own life.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the incident that happened on Thursday, 13 April in Norkem Park, Gauteng.

While several reports suggested the suspect was a woman, Nevhuhulwi confirmed to Daily Sun it was in fact an unidentified man who fatally wounded his partner.

"Police in Norkem Park are investigating a case of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after a 51-year-old man allegedly shot and killed a 29-year-old man on 13 April 2023.

"It's reported that the suspect had also taken an overdose of medication. He is currently at the local hospital under police guard," she said.

While the circumstances that led to this incident are still unknown at this stage, Nevhuhulwi said police investigations continue.

But, in a statement on Friday 14 April, 7de Laan denied having knowledge of the alleged actor’s identity.

"SABC2 and 7de Laan are deeply saddened and disturbed by the reports circulating in the media regarding a tragic incident of domestic violence involving an alleged 7de Laan actor.

"As it stands, we have no knowledge of the identity of the individual involved and would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends.

"Production has made efforts to establish whom the said individual might be, however as per the law, the suspect’s identity cannot be disclosed until such time that they have been formally charged," the statement read.

As mystery continues to surround the identity of the alleged killer, 7de Laan confirmed he was not part of their current cast, but revealed that he featured on several other soapies.
