GQOM musician Bongekile "Babes Wodumo" Simelane (29) has shocked her fans with a suicidal, disturbing Instagram post.

Babes, who is also the widow of late kwaito and gqom star Mandla "Mampintsha" Maphumulo, posted a disturbing post on Thursday, 2 November, saying: "Engathi Ngingafa", which means I wish I could die.

The post got her fans worried and she deleted it, but it was too late because many of them had already screengrabbed and shared it.

It was reported that Babes Wodumo was not coping after the death of her husband Mampintsha in December 2022 and that she had allegedly suffered a stroke.

Many social media users said she needed therapy to move on after losing her husband, while others said she may not be able to cope with her husband's death as she was about to end another year without Mampintsha, who died on 24 December 2022.

Daily Sun contacted Babes Wodumo but her phone rang and answered and on Friday, 3 November. The SunTeam contacted her sister, who is also her manager Nondumiso Simelane, and she told Daily Sun that Babes Wodumo was doing fine.

"People need to relax, Babes Wodumo is doing well," Nondumiso said.

Nondumiso said maybe she posted by mistake because Babes was not going through hard times, and she was coping after losing her husband in December 2022.

"Like you said, it was removed. Maybe it was accidentally posted and I want to confirm to her fans that she is fine and ready for her performances during the festive season, and that she is not suicidal and not wishing for death.

"We cannot deny that she misses her husband because he was her best friend, but that doesn’t mean she wishes she was dead or wants to kill herself," she said.
