MINISTER of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa announced the nominees for the upcoming Inaugural Cultural and Creative Industry Awards (CCIAs) on Monday, 18 March at the SABC Studios in Joburg.
The all-encompassing creative sector awards are comprised of eight categories, and a total of 30 awards, which include the Outstanding Museum Award, Outstanding Crafter Award, Outstanding Children Fiction Book Award, Outstanding Publisher Award, Outstanding Film Fiction Award, Outstanding Fashion and Textile Designer Award and Outstanding Theatre Production Award to just name a few.
The minister complimented the quality of submissions they received, and said they were hoping to receive more submissions moving forward.
“We believe the Cultural and Creative Industry Awards will make an immense contribution towards unlocking opportunities for our creatives. These awards are one of our interventions to elevate South Africa’s cultural and creative sectors,” said Kodwa.
He said there is power in acknowledging excellence because it inspires other generations, especially the younger generations.

“If you look at the portfolio at the department, it has been more of a sport portfolio which left out other important elements of the sport which is creatives and heritage. That is why in the past we had sports awards,” he said.
Top Mzansi designer, Rich Minisi and the founder of Amaxhosa, Laduma Ngxokolo are nominated for Outstanding Fashion and Textile Designer Award.
South African actor and television producer Thapelo Mokoena (41) and comedian Nani Hastie (43) will be the presenters of the main stage.
The awards will take place on 30 March 2024 at the Sandton Convention Centre.
