GENDER-BASED violence (GBV) victims and survivors are safe in Cynthia Dinalane's hands.

Cynthia runs Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, which is home to 63 women and children who are victims of GBV.

In a bid to extend and house even more women and children, Cynthia has partnered with gospel stars such as Puleng March, William Sejake, Mmatema Gavu, and Sipho Ngwenya.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Cynthia said she'll be hosting an awards ceremony called the GBV Awards where the gospel stars will be performing.

The awards will be held at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park on 9 March.

“We are trying to buy a house next door to the shelter, but it costs R1,6 million. So, this is a way to raise funds. Our shelter helps a lot of women, not just in Gauteng, but around KZN, Mpumalanga and Limpopo. We want to get a better and bigger place so we can help more people,” she said.

The awards will recognise individuals and organisations dedicated to assisting GBV victims.

"We’ll be honouring cops, community members and organisations that are helping us fight gender-based violence. People that we know and see making a difference in our community. We also asked the community to nominate people and we have adjudicators who are checking if those people are worthy of winning.

“These musicians in the line-up offered to help raise funds because they support the anti-GBV movement. They said the least they can do is perform and help us raise funds,” she said.

Former Joyous Celebration member Puleng told Daily Sun that she's commitment to the cause.

“I thought because I don’t have shelter or money to help these people, the least I can do is to show my support by availing my gift and sharing it with everyone that’s going to be at the awards. It’s my way of showing support for the GBV Awards and showing that I’m against abuse.

“I’ll be bringing excitement, energy, fireworks and heaven on earth. I’ll be singing people’s favourites and perform Ke Laolwa Ke Moya which is a fan favourite,” Puleng said.
