MZANSI artists and creatives will be awarded with R100 000.
This cash prize will be for each category of the Cultural and Creative Industry Awards (CCIAs).
This was announced by Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa at the launch of CCIAs on Thursday, 22 February, at the Melrose Gallery in Joburg.
The launch was hosted by media personality Unathi Nkayi while the gallery was filled with celebrities and media people.
Kodwa said the awards will be bestowed annually to Mzansi's leading creatives in the various creative sector categories and sub-domains who exhibit outstanding artistic and technical achievement.

“Cultural And Creative Industry Awards are intended to be the currency of the creatives in our country; the supreme awards platform that will be recognised by industry insiders as giving recognition and legitimacy to highly talented creatives in the sector,” he said.
The minister said that receiving the awards will give the artists a sense of honour, recognition, achievement, and accomplishment.
Award-winning pan-African marketer Thebe Ikalafeng announced the categories for the awards. They included Dance production, Musician, Poet, Artists with Disability, Breakthrough Artist, International Artists and more.
Veteran actress Lilian Dube, who was among the celebrities who attended the launch, said she's excited about the awards.
“It’s about time we celebrate our own. Remember, I lived through apartheid and post 1994. As much as Afrikaans people treated us badly but our awards used to come with money but after 1994 that never happened, so I'm very excited,” she said.
