RENOWNED jazz musician Dr Nduduzo Makhathini (41) will express his innermost feelings through his music.

Dr Makhathini, who is a music lecturer at the University of KZN (UKZN), is also a sangoma and will host a concert called Dr Nduduzo Makhathini in Concert at UKZN in Durban on Wednesday, 21 February.

His concert will be held at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music.

Dr Makhathini is well known for his performances at prestigious jazz festivals worldwide, including the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York.

He said he's thrilled to bring his jazz concert to Durban.

“I will remind my music fans many things about my music during my performances and all of it is that I'll be using my music to convey what I’m feeling in my heart.

“I can’t wait to share my feelings, my thoughts to my fans using my music during the concert. I’m excited to share some music and thoughts with them,” he said.

Dr Makhathini graduated with a PhD in music from Stellenbosch University in 2023 while he was a lecturer and head of the department of music at the University of Fort Hare.

He later returned to Durban, where he became a musicologist at UKZN.

Dr Makhathini, who scooped Best Jazz Album at the Metro FM music awards in 2023, is also expected to share his deep knowledge of music with his fans as well as music students.

In 2023, he and the legendary jazz musician Mbuso Khoza created a duo called Abasemkhathini and performed together in big festivals such as Umtiza Arts Festival at the Guild Theatre in the Eastern Cape, and International Jazz Festival at The Station in Durban.
