COPS have finally arrested suspects in connection with the 2023 murders of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

AKA and Tibz were shot dead outside The Wish restaurant on Florida in Durban on 10 February 2023.

During a media briefing hosted by Police Minister Bheki Cele and KZN police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi at the SAPS' provincial head office in Durban on Tuesday night, 27 February, the police top brass confirmed that they arrested six suspects and they’ll appear in a court on a date to be confirmed on Thursday, 29 February.

“These six played a different role during the operation; we have a co-ordinator who is basically a master of everything and is in custody. We have two shooters; we have two spotters. One of the spotters was inside the restaurant observing what Mr Forbes was doing as well as the organiser of firearms and vehicles.

“Vehicles used as a gateway and firearms were all hired. The spotter initially followed Mr Forbes from the airport on arrival all the way to the hotel and the restaurant where the incident happened. This person was also responsible for hiring and gathering resources together and the whole team together as well as the rewards that come after,” he said.

Mkhwanazi said another suspect they have is the person who supplied guns and vehicles, and that person is also linked to two other murder cases.

Earlier on Monday, 26 February, Mkhwanazi denied reports that suspects for the murder of the duo were arrested in Eswatini but during the media briefing he disclosed that two of the suspects were found hiding in Eswatini.

He said after the report broke that the suspects were hiding in Eswatini on Monday, the suspects escaped but they handed themselves in on Tuesday, 27 February.

He said the strategy the police were using was that when they identified the six suspects, they were going to look at the parallel cases that they were suspected to be involved in and arrest them on those cases and keep them in custody.

Cele congratulated Mkhwanazi and his team for making the arrests. He said there were still other possible arrests.
