LEGENDARY musician Bheki “Ihhashi Elimhlophe” Ngcobo is set to make history by becoming the first maskandi artist to shoot a live DVD.

He is busy organising the two-day live recording at Soweto Theatre, to be held on 16 and 17 September.

Ihhashi Elimhlophe is one of the most respected living legends after being in the music industry for more than four decades.

He said he decided to record the live DVD so he could take maskandi fans down memory lane.

“I saw the need of reminding fans how the genre was like during the olden days. I’ll sing my old songs that introduced me to the industry,” he said.

Over the years, Ihhashi Elimhlophe has released 29 albums and won many awards. He worked with other legendary musicians including late Mfaz’ Omnyama and Phuzekhemisi.

His albums, including Uqanduqandu, Ama Waza Waza and Isiphalaphala, have wowed music fans.

“I’ve worked with many artists, including those who don’t sing maskandi. But I won’t reveal whether I’ve invited them to be part of the recording or not. I’ve experienced both challenging and exciting years as an artist, and this DVD is part of my celebration of survival and sustainability,” he said.
