LEGENDARY maskandi musician Ihhashi Elimhlophe will make history by becoming the first maskandi artist to record a live DVD.
The DVD will be recorded at the Soweto Theatre on 16 and 17 September.
Ihhashi Elimhlophe, whose real name is Bheki Ngcobo, said fans can expect a mix of his old and new hits during the recording.
“I am doing this because of the love of maskandi. I may not like the direction the genre has taken these past years, but I love and value maskandi,” he said.
“God has kept me for long in the industry even though it’s regarded as a short career. What also kept me in the industry is discipline and respect,” he said.

The musician, who has been in the industry for over 40 years, said maskandi music still commands a huge following. He said at the moment, he is changing the face of maskandi music and taking it to commercial competitive levels.
“It’s commonly said that life begins at 40 and I am happy that I’m receiving more opportunities to expand my brand at the moment. What I can say is fans can expect more of me on screens,” he said.
Ihashi Elimhlophe added that when he became a musician it was about love, passion and survival.
Besides the upcoming live DVD recording, he is planning a surprise theatre project which the country will hear about in the next year. He is also busy with projects including Ihashi Movement, where he is helping young people in the music industry.
