UP-AND-COMING singer Hlengiwe Motha, whose stage name is Hlengi M, has released her first EP, Tsemba Lam’.
The Mbombela-born pastor’s kid said that growing up in a Christian family and singing in church inspired her to pursue a career in music.
“Growing up in Sunday school, I was the lead singer. In 2013, I joined the praise team, so my passion for music and singing grew each day.”
The 26-year-old said her career started when she recorded her first gospel song in 2020.

“The single was titled The Cross. With the love I had for spiritual songs, I recorded an Afro-pop song, titled Phola Nhliziyo in April this year, and it was well received and local producers loved it,” she told SunBuzz.
Hlengi M was then advised to consider being an amapiano vocalist, which led to her creating songs in that genre. And in May, she was featured in DJ Moscow’s EP.
The singer shared that her style of music was inspired by vocalists who she has previously worked with, including Khalil Harrison and Sfiso Mantshintshi.
In July this year, she was signed by Sambo Records, a label that is based in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.
Hlengi M shared that she was excited about her EP, that was by far her biggest achievement.
She also said it was very spiritual.
“Tsemba Lam’ is my biggest achievement so far, and people will love my music.
“It’s very unique and consists of Swati lyrics, which is not dominant in the industry. My music will give hope to the hopeless while also being great to listen to.
“I have also worked with talented and experienced producers,” she said.
