THE Royal Heritage Festival is making a comeback after a three-year break.
The big event that’s held at Nandoni Dam in Venda, Limpopo annually has been on a break because of Covid-19.
They held a press conference announcing their return at SABC’s Radio Park on Tuesday, 1 August.
They announced the line-up, which includes more than 40 musicians, including Makhadzi, Big Zulu, MacG, SolPhenduka, Young Stunna, Nadia Nakai, Lady Amar, Lerato Kganyago, and Dr Colbert Mukwevho.
Organiser Shandukani Nesengani said they thought they wouldn’t be returning because of the pandemic.
“We thank God for this day. We had thought that our hard work from all these years had just gone to waste because of Covid-19. We didn’t know where things would lead. The number of calls I received from people throughout the past years was heartbreaking.

“Remember, this event gets a lot of people working. So, it was quite sad. This event has done so much for our people in many ways. A lot has come out of this festival. It’s not just about dancing,” he said.
Speaking about the festival, SABC’s acting group executive for radio, Siphelele Sixaso, said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Phalaphala FM and its partners for this festival. Through this partnership, we’re able to experience a mighty partnership with our listeners, partners and stakeholders. The great 13 years of our relationship that has seen a mutual return for all our parties.”
SABC2’s marketing manager for video entertainment, Dichaba Phalatse, said he hopes people travel from all over Mzansi to attend the festival.
“At the beginning, we really believed in that vision that festival had, which was a celebration of our heritage and our artists. We attracted hundreds of South Africans. It was a perfect marriage,” he said.
“Initially, we started by bringing the Muvhango cast. Then we started bringing the 7de Laan cast and cast members from different shows. The intention with us this year, we’re taking this festival mass. What I mean is that we want to see people driving all the way from Cape Town to Venda.”
The festival is set to take place on 16 September.
