MASKANDI artist Mapensela Gumede was hoping to be part of this year's Call It Spring Festival, but it seems this might not happen as he wasn't booked.
Call It Spring Festival will be held at Jolivet Sports Field in KZN on the 9 September, and its purpose is to celebrate and uplift local artists.
Artists have to be voted in to be part of the event. Unfortunately, Mapensela did not get enough votes and is now fighting as he believes he deserved to be on the line-up.
As a result, he is demanding answers from event organisers.
He said: “I was hopeful. I thought everything was fine until I saw the results. I don’t know what went wrong because I have great support and I know my fans voted for me.

"I know this because they showed me the proof. I strongly feel that the event organisers made a mistake. I say this because people love me and they want to see me on that stage. But my name is not there. I’ve been snubbed."
"I know I exceeded most artists with votes, but I was still not included. The last time I checked I was on number four and people were still voting for me."
But the founder and event organiser, Andile Caluza, said: “Mapensela is fairly new in the industry and people voted for him. Unfortunately it was very tough for him as a result. We couldn’t book him. I’d also love to see him on stage, but we have budget constraints, therefore we cannot book all the artists.”
Andile said the line-up includes mainstream artists as well as up-and-coming ones.
“Artists who received top votes and who will be performing are iMbalenhle, ilawomadoda and Amagqishangoma. Mapensela would have been among these artists if he did well in the polls,” said Andile.
